Contractor Field Tools — Weather, Inspections, Canvassing & Measurements

Everything a roofing contractor needs in the field — weather forecasts, inspection checklists, canvassing maps, and roof measurements — all in one dashboard.

Field Tools Built for Roofing Contractors

Most roofing software stops at the office. Roof Visualizer Pro goes to the job site with you. The Contractor Tools tab in your dashboard gives you everything you need in the field — weather forecasts so you know when to work, inspection checklists for thorough documentation, canvassing maps for door-to-door sales, and measurements that feed directly into the estimator.

No more juggling five apps on your phone. Weather, inspections, canvassing, and measurements live in one place — your Roof Visualizer Pro dashboard.

Weather Forecasting

Weather controls roofing schedules. The built-in weather panel gives you a 7-day forecast powered by the Google Weather API, real-time NEXRAD radar overlays, and storm tracking from NOAA. Know when to work, when to stand down, and when to canvass.

  • 7-Day Forecast — Daytime and nighttime conditions, temperature, precipitation chance
  • Live Radar — NEXRAD precipitation tiles overlaid on your service area map
  • Storm Tracking — Hail reports and severe weather events from NOAA SWDI and SPC
  • Weather Alerts — Active alerts for your service area, matched by county

Inspection Checklists

Document every detail during a roof inspection. Digital checklists ensure nothing gets missed, and photo documentation gives you evidence for insurance claims, supplements, and customer presentations.

Digital Checklists

Pre-built inspection items: ridge, valleys, flashing, gutters, ventilation, decking, penetrations, and more.

Photo Documentation

Attach photos to each checklist item. GPS-tagged images create a visual record tied to the property.

Notes & Annotations

Add text notes, mark damage severity, and tag areas for follow-up. Everything saves to the job record.

PDF Reports

Generate a branded inspection report PDF with photos, findings, and recommendations. Share with the homeowner or insurance adjuster.

Canvassing Maps

Door-to-door canvassing is still the #1 lead source for storm damage contractors. The canvassing map turns your phone into a powerful field tool with interactive Google Maps, pin tracking, outcome logging, and color-coded coverage visualization.

  • Interactive Maps — Full Google Maps integration with satellite and street view
  • Pin Tracking — Drop pins at every door, color-coded by outcome
  • Outcome Logging — Interested, not home, not interested, follow up, appointment set
  • Coverage Heatmaps — See which streets you've hit and which still need knocking
  • Customizable Settings — 5 settings, 3 color schemes, persistent across sessions

Roof Measurements

The measurements tool runs side-by-side with the estimator in a split-pane layout with a draggable resize handle. Input roof area, pitch, ridges, valleys, and other dimensions on the left — the estimator calculates material and labor costs on the right in real time.

  • Roof Area — Total squares, broken out by facet if needed
  • Pitch & Complexity — Slope factor affects labor and material waste calculations
  • Linear Measurements — Ridges, hips, valleys, eaves, rakes, and drip edge
  • Side-by-Side with Estimator — Draggable split pane for seamless workflow

Platform Integrations

Contractor tools don't just live in isolation. Every data point flows into the rest of the platform.

CRM & Jobs

Inspection reports and canvassing outcomes link to customer records and job pipelines. Every field interaction is tracked.

Weather to Canvassing

Storm tracker identifies affected neighborhoods. Switch to the canvassing map and start knocking — all from the same dashboard tab.

Measurements to Estimator

Roof measurements feed directly into the estimator. No copy-pasting, no re-entry. Side-by-side in real time.

Use Cases

Post-Storm Canvassing

Hail hits your area. Check the storm tracker for confirmed reports, identify affected ZIP codes, and start canvassing the neighborhood with pin tracking before anyone else shows up.

Insurance Inspection Documentation

Run through the inspection checklist on-site, attach GPS-tagged photos, and generate a branded PDF report. Hand it to the adjuster or attach it to a proposal for the homeowner.

Crew Scheduling Around Weather

Check the 7-day forecast before scheduling crews. Spot rain windows, reschedule proactively, and keep crews productive instead of sitting idle on a wet roof.

On-Site Estimate Generation

Measure the roof, punch in the numbers, and show the homeowner an instant estimate before you leave the property. Close the deal while you're face-to-face.

Contractor Tools FAQ

Where does the weather data come from?
We use the Google Weather API for 7-day forecasts and IEM NEXRAD radar tiles for real-time precipitation maps. Storm tracking pulls from NOAA's Severe Weather Data Inventory (SWDI) and the Storm Prediction Center (SPC). All data is free and updated continuously.
Can I use the inspection checklists offline?
The web app requires an internet connection for full functionality. However, photos and notes are cached locally and sync when you reconnect. We're building full offline support via PWA in a future update.
How does the canvassing map work?
The canvassing map uses Google Maps with interactive pin tracking. Drop pins at addresses you visit, log the outcome (interested, not home, not interested, follow up), and see your coverage area at a glance. Color-coded pins make it easy to plan routes.
Does the measurements tool connect to the estimator?
Yes. The measurements tool and estimator run side-by-side in the same tab with a draggable resize handle. Input measurements on the left, and the estimator calculates costs on the right in real time. No copy-pasting between tools.
Is storm tracking included in all plans?
Yes. Storm tracking is available on all subscription tiers (Starter, Pro, and Elite). The system pulls real-time hail and severe weather data from NOAA and maps it to your service area automatically.
